Living on the Edge Opens at YMa, Pontypridd

On 2 October, I opened my debut solo exhibition, Living on the Edge, at YMa in Pontypridd as part of Ffoto Cymru 2026. The exhibition brings together four bodies of photographic work made in Nigeria and The Gambia, looking at how communities experience and respond to environmental change.

The four series are Sow. Hoe. Grow., Live and Let Live, Ground Without Rest and Vanishing Fields. The work looks at different experiences across these communities, including food growing, deforestation, land and extraction, coastal change and the impact of saltwater intrusion on rice farming. The idea behind the project was to tell these stories through photography, helping people see and understand what conversations around climate change mean for people in their everyday lives.

Opening the exhibition and seeing people come into the space, spend time with the photographs and talk about the work was a special moment for me. I’m grateful to everyone who came to the opening, supported the project and helped make the exhibition possible. Thank you to Arts Council of Wales, Ffotogallery and YMa for supporting and presenting the project, and to Climate Cymru and Friends of the Earth Pontypridd for their support.

Living on the Edge continues at YMa, Pontypridd, throughout October 2026. A selection of photographs from the opening reception is below.

Thank you so much Bukunmi, we are being encouraged seeing all these stories about Africa being told through photography.
We could relate with them easily especially that we are seeing the stories through pictures.

Keep up the good work!
Well done.
